Consistent Action: The Unseen Hero in Achieving Your Goals

In my college freshman days, I swapped a Philosophy class for Computer Science 101, waving goodbye to my teenage aspiration of being the President of the United States of America.😆

Fast-forward twenty-five years, a casual chat at a park picnic in my small community near Pittsburgh reignited that old political flame. My pals were nudging me to stand for township supervisor.

Now, 18 months in, it’s the morning after Election Day, and the result? A nail-biter – too close to call.

While I hustled for that one more vote that might tip the scales, my daughter’s high school soccer team was scoring a different kind of victory. They clinched a 3-0 win in a state playoff -a high they hadn’t reached in 38 years.

Then there was my signature event, Momentum Live intensive, which gathered small business owners in Havre de Grace last month. I had hoped to have new attendees take us up on our offer to work with the Sappari Group. And while our One Focus Program welcomed new faces, the Momentum Accountability program didn’t share the same fate.

Why am I sharing all this with you? And what’s the common thread in an election, a soccer championship, and a sales pitch? I’ll tell you in the paragraph below 👇

Victory isn’t just about the event; it’s built over time.

Ralph W. Emerson had it right – “It’s the journey, not the destination.”

Winning takes persistent, step-by-step action. For the election, it was the months of one-on-one chats – texts, letters, social media engagements, and door knocking that mattered more than a couple of last-minute votes. That consistent outreach was the real victory, not just the numbers on election night.

In soccer, it was the relentless drills – passes, kicks, sit-ups, sprints – that crafted the real triumph. The playoff win was just the crowning moment of relentless team effort.

And in business, the real win was drawing the right crowd, knowing their needs, and fostering relationships so when the right deal came along, they were primed and ready. The sales we made were just the icing on the cake, the result of groundwork laid over the previous months.

Your success hinges on the daily grind – the continuous steps you take every day

Identify the small, consistent actions you need to take to be successful, and have the willingness to execute them day in and day out to grow your muscles. That one big win is just a snapshot of your journey to that point.

As I sit here, awaiting my electoral fate, I cannot help but think of the times that I showed up (or didn’t), that I acted with consistency (or didn’t) and how that has led me here.

Today, I’m taking some time to reassess what worked, what didn’t, and what I’ve learned in the process of all these events. I’m resetting my focus and figuring out the next steps needed to reach my goals.

If you’re on this path with me, I’d love to hear from you in the comments. ⚡
