Are you still putting out fires?

Have you been moving from one fire to the next in your business?

I totally get it.  I have been there myself and it is a stressful, sleep deprived, frustrating place to be.  You may even be thinking, “I’ve been doing this for so long! Why haven’t a figured it out yet?”

And while that exclamation of frustration is valid, it’s not helpful.

What IS Helpful?

A pause.

I know, you don’t have time to pause.

But the reality is, you don’t have time to keep moving in the way you have been going without reaching the goals for your company, completing important projects, and burning yourself and your team out.

I am not talking about taking a bath, self care or checking out on a vacation to a beach (Although those are GREAT things and they should be a part of how you take care of yourself).

I am talking about a pause to strategically and tactically plan.

A Process for Regular Evaluation, Strategizing, and Planning

Large companies do not go more than 90 days without a focused planning and reset time to get a handle on the status of their goals and projects, to assess what’s working and what is not, and to refocus their efforts. There is no reason not to take a page from their strategy book.

It’s even more important for smaller companies to pause to plan.

Smaller companies, like yours, work with much tighter margins and often less cash flow runway.  Because of this, you have an even higher requirement to be evaluating your key metrics, getting a handle on the status of your goals and projects, assessing what’s working and what is not, and to refocusing your efforts.  I would argue, you should have a plan in place to do this daily.

At a minimum you should reset your business every 90 days

If you are not resetting every 90 days you will run the risk of creating an aspirational strategic plan and then making excuses about why your company did not reach it’s goals year over year.  This is risky business.  You will have less access to funding, your team and you will lose focus and morale, and your chances of success will diminish with every missed goal.  But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Set aside time for reflection and planning and implementation.

It can be really hard to pause from the day to day to set aside time for reflection and planning.  But it is an absolute necessity.  It can be hard to do this work in the context of your office because there are so many distractions that will vie for your time.  What if you could pull aside to a space that was designed for your success?  You can try to create this on your own: a cabin in the woods, with great wifi LOL, where you invite your board of advisors to retreat with you and do the work of looking at all that is going on in your company, ask hard questions, envision the future, learn from your past initiatives, and plan your next steps strategically and tactically.  So long as everyone is available and you have someone to manage the experience so that you stay on track OR

You can join me and Wanda Turini at Momentum Live March 28-30, 2023 in Havre de Grace, MD
We have already created the container designed for you to walk out with your Strategic Plan and your Tactical Plan having pressure tested these both in a room of peers and advisors who all want to see your company succeed.

Wanda and I believe so much in the value of this type of planning that we are arranging to ensure you have a way to do it every 3 months.

Still thinking about all the reasons why this will not work for you, that you don’t have the time, resources, or energy to do this work right now?
It may be the case that you are still stuck in your head right now about attending.  Believe me when I say I have heard ALL the excuses for people not showing up to do this work.  At the end of the day, the decision has to be yours. If you are ready to reach the goals you have in your mind, the ones you designed with your team, and stop the spinning day to day then this is your opportunity.

If you like where you are, then don’t come.

And just to make it even easier to say, ‘yes’ and try out a new way of operating your company, we have added a ‘Day Pass’ option which allows you to choose to come just 1 day, 2 days or all 3 days.  Whichever fits your schedule and budget best.

As always, if you have any questions, hit the reply button and I will respond as soon as I can.

And, one more thing, check out this video from Bob about what it was like when he finally decided to join us.
