Making the Transition from Founder to CEO
I get it; the day-to-day of being in business is difficult. You love what you do. You are excited for what you are creating.
And yet there’s always a balance between competing needs and responsibilities.
And, it’s not just between growing your company AND operating your company, but other elements like your:
- family
- well-being
- community
- professional development.
Compounding this balance is your changing role as the leader in your business.
You are going through your own transition,
one that very few people make.
The transition from the business owner and the doer of all things; to CEO.
Your CEO role is both an identity and a job description and holding it does not actually require that you call yourself CEO. It is possible that you may still go by business owner, founder, president, or any professional title.
It does require you to be ready to step into your leadership.

Why is claiming your CEO Identity important?
What happens on the other side of claiming your identity as CEO in your business is:
- An acceptance of the CEO job description
- A shift from being the bottleneck in your company to facilitating your company’s growth
- Clarity of direction for yourself and your team
And more.
The real benefits come when you see growth in your business and feel the magnificent relief of no longer being trapped in your business.
If you are looking to reach goals for your company that you have only dreamed of so far, claiming your CEO Identity is the single most important step you can take.
Adam Grant shares in his book, Originals, that “Becoming originals is not the easiest path in the pursuit of happiness, but it leaves us perfectly poised for the happiness of pursuit.” The shift from founder to CEO and claiming your own identity in this process will not be the easiest path you can take in pursuit of your happiness and success but you will find success and happiness in the pursuit.
From this point forward, I am going to share with you the steps you can take to stop being the bottleneck in your business and start claiming your role so that you can finally reach your business goals.
